What the checker looks at
Everything that decides whether a link counts
A link only helps when it is on an indexable page, followable and placed where readers see it. One scan checks all of it.
Every link on the page
Full URL, anchor text, image links (with alt text) and whether the link is internal or external.
Link type
Dofollow, nofollow, sponsored or UGC, read from the rel attribute — plus page-level nofollow.
Link position
Main content, navigation, header, sidebar, footer or comments. In-content links usually carry the most weight.
Your backlink & anchor
Finds links to your URL or domain and compares the anchor with the one you agreed.
HTTP status & redirects
The status code and every redirect hop before the final page.
Noindex
Meta robots and X-Robots-Tag headers that keep a page — and its links — out of Google.
Canonical tag
Flags pages whose canonical points to a different URL.
robots.txt
Checks whether Googlebot is allowed to crawl the page.
How to use it
Three ways to check links
- Scan a pagePaste any article URL and get every outbound link with anchor, type and position. Switch to the Internal tab to audit internal links.
- Verify your backlinkTurn on “Verify my backlink”, add your URL or domain and the agreed anchor. You get a clear pass / check / fail with reasons.
- Bulk check placementsPaste up to 10 live URLs (50 with a free buyer account) — for example all placements from one campaign — and see which links are live, followable and indexable. Export everything to CSV.
Backlink checker FAQ
What does this backlink checker do?
It reads the HTML of any public page and lists every link on it with the anchor text, the full URL, the rel attribute (dofollow, nofollow, sponsored or UGC) and where the link sits (main content, navigation, sidebar or footer). It also checks whether the page itself can be indexed.
How do I verify my own backlink?
Choose “Verify my backlink”, paste the live article URL, then your promoted URL or domain and, optionally, the anchor text you agreed. The tool tells you whether the link was found, whether the anchor matches, whether it is dofollow and whether the page is indexable.
What makes a backlink “indexable”?
The page should return HTTP 200, must not carry a noindex meta tag or X-Robots-Tag header, must not be blocked in robots.txt, and its canonical tag should point to itself. If any of these fail, search engines may ignore the page — and the links on it.
Why is my link not found?
Common reasons: the link has not been published yet, it was added with JavaScript after the page loads (this tool reads the HTML Google receives first), the page redirects somewhere else, or the URL is behind a login or bot protection.
Should internal links be shown?
External links are shown first because that is what backlink checks are about. Internal links are listed in their own tab, which is handy for content audits and for seeing how a page is linked within its own site.
Is the tool free? Do you store the pages I check?
Yes, it is free with a fair-use limit per hour. We cache a result for a few minutes to keep the tool fast, and we do not store the pages you check in our database.
Checking links is free. Getting good ones is our job.
